Introduction: To ensure positive pregnancy and birth outcomes, healthcare providers working in antenatal clinics are expected to provide regular antenatal education to enable early detection and timely managment of pregnancy-related high risks and to prevent complications during pregnancy, birth, and postnatal period (Maha, Vidya and Amandu, 2023). Primi gravida mothers experiencing fear toward the mechanism of labour. Prenatal education provides knowledge and orientation which is capable for reducing the level of fear associated with child birth.
This study conducted to measure the effectiveness of pre delivery educational program on reducing the level of childbirth fear among primi gravida mothers.
Methodology: Quantitative study, the design used in this study is pre- test and post- test experimental group design. Sample size will be around 60-75 primi gravida mothers, for a period of 6 months. Educational program will be introduced for experimental group, they receive sessions about process of normal delivery, addressing the factors that leading to childbirth fear and how to overcome it, besides their routine antenatal care. The level of fear from delivery will be measured by Self-Evaluation Questionnaire (SEQ) before and after implement the educational program.
Results: The childbirth fear among experimental group reduced significantly after education . Severity of childbirth fear decreased due to the effect of educational session and mothers will feel more comfortable and being more confident after having knowledge about process of childbirth
The results provide powerful evidence that the workshop significantly reduces fear of childbirth. The drop in scores is large, consistent, and highly statistically significant. This supports the effectiveness of the workshop and shows that it is a beneficial intervention for reducing childbirth anxiety.
Conclusion: Pre delivery educational program found to be more effective in reducing level of childbirth fear among primi gravida mothers.
